A butler and reporter conducting an interview across a desk

PRESS

Magazine and Newspaper Features

Print offers a measured way for me to present the profession of butler. Unlike the time constraints of television, I can include background and reasoning. Below I summarise the subjects I cover in magazine and newspaper interviews, the forms of contribution and supervision I accept, and the process for making a request.

What I Convey in Print

The true nature of the butler profession and the philosophy of hospitality. I go beyond merely introducing etiquette to explain the reasons behind each practice.

Articles that list only etiquette can be difficult for readers to put into practice. When reasons are included, readers can adapt them even when circumstances change. I emphasise this aspect in interviews.

I also report on the current state of the profession without exaggeration. Where statistics on numbers are unavailable, I state clearly that they are unknown.

Types of Feature I Can Support

Manner special issues, lifestyle features, career profiles and interviews. I adjust the depth of content according to the purpose of the article.

In lifestyle magazines I focus on practical etiquette, in business titles on the design of service and organisational aspects, and in career profiles on the path to becoming a butler. I can tailor the angle to suit the readership.

I can also respond to seasonal features on gift-giving, entertaining and annual events.

Contributions and Supervision

I accept original written contributions, supervision of article content and practical demonstrations accompanied by photography.

For contributions I write fresh pieces on the agreed theme. For supervision I check that the manuscript accords with actual practice and supply any necessary corrections.

For features involving photography of movements I can perform demonstrations using the proper implements.

Scope of Answers in Interviews

I limit my replies to matters that can be confirmed as fact. I cannot disclose information about clients for reasons of confidentiality.

Butler work takes place inside private households and confidentiality is fundamental. I am therefore unable to give specifics about the individuals I serve or the locations at which I work, regardless of the circumstances. I ask for your understanding on this point.

On the general content of the profession, etiquette and philosophy I answer as concretely as possible.

Treatment of Published Records

I add verified records of appearances in sequence. At present no individual records appear on this page.

I add entries once the publication name, issue and other details have been confirmed.

I also accept enquiries about past appearances.
